BBC’s Women’s Euros coverage with Lightwell virtual set gains Broadcast Sport Awards shortlist nod
We’re pleased to announce that BBC Sport’s coverage of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, produced by Sunset+Vine, has been shortlisted in the “Sports Production of the Year (Quadrennial)” category at the Broadcast Sport Awards 2025.

This is a wonderful recognition of the ambitious production — and we are especially proud that Lightwell’s virtual set design played a key role in bringing this to life.

Behind the virtual studio
For this tournament, Sunset+Vine embraced a flexible, immersive environment to support BBC’s pre-match, half-time, and post-match programming. They leaned on green-screen virtual studio technology to recreate an evocative “Swiss chalet” setting, complete with landscapes, reflections, and integrated interactive screens. (SVG Europe)
Our contribution - the virtual set architecture and design - helped deliver:
- A coherent visual identity that tied into the tournament’s setting (mountains, lakes, chalet aesthetic)
- Seamless integration of live presentation, analyst movements, and real-time graphics
- Support for motion tracking, reflections, and dynamic lighting via tools like Mo-Sys and Unreal-based rendering (SVG Europe)
The challenge was to make everything feel “grounded” - so presenters can walk, point, move - yet maintain full flexibility. Balancing realism and creative freedom was central.
Why this matters
Being shortlisted for this Awards category underscores how sports broadcasting is evolving: it’s not just about cameras in stadia anymore, but about virtual environments, remote production, and immersive presentation.
For Lightwell, this recognition affirms our mission: to push what’s possible in virtual studios, ensuring they aren’t just backdrops — they’re collaborators in storytelling.
We extend huge congratulations to Sunset+Vine, BBC Sport, and all the technical and creative teams who made this possible. Whether or not this production wins, being part of this shortlist is a privilege.
