MUTV Thursday Focus - A Virtual Set For A Budget Conscious Production

In 2013, we designed and built a suite of virtual sets for MUTV, using a NewTek TriCaster and greenscreen studio setup. Each set was tailored to a specific show, giving MUTV a flexible, visually distinctive environment without the cost and space demands of multiple physical builds.

For Thursday Focus, the creative brief called for a domestic front room belonging to the ultimate Manchester United supporter. We set out to create a warm, lived-in space layered with the history, pride, and passion of the club. The walls were lined with portraits of legendary United players, each an icon in the club’s story, and the shelves displayed detailed models of the many trophies won over the decades. Every design choice was made to reflect authenticity—some items appearing slightly worn, as if they’d been proudly displayed for years.

This project showcased how virtual studio technology can blend broadcast professionalism with themed, immersive storytelling. The design allowed MUTV to switch effortlessly between different programme styles, maintaining brand consistency while creating unique visual identities for each show.
