Consultancy

Not every commission results in a finished virtual set. Some of the most valuable work Lightwell does happens earlier in the process - helping broadcasters and production teams understand what is possible, what is appropriate for their studio and budget, and how to specify and procure the right solution.

Design and Set Design

Concept development, spatial design, and visual direction for virtual production environments - including productions where the build itself is handled by others. Lightwell brings the same architectural rigour to consultancy commissions as to full design and delivery projects.

Studio and Camera Pre-Visualisation

Before a studio is built or a camera system is specified, Pre-Viz allows productions to understand exactly how a virtual environment will behave in a given space. Camera angles and blocking, presenter positions, virtual geometry, and lighting can be rigorously tested and refined, removing uncertainty and eliminating risk before significant investment is committed.

Studio Specifications

Defining the technical requirements for a virtual production studio (camera systems, tracking infrastructure, rendering platforms, and studio configuration) in a way that is grounded in real design intent rather than generic technical criteria. The result is a specification that serves the creative ambition of the production, not just the procurement process. Lightwell can also advise on whether a proposed studio space will physically work for a given production - assessing dimensions, ceiling heights, lighting conditions, and spatial constraints before significant investment is committed. For clients who are still weighing their options, we can help determine which approach is best suited to their needs, and whether a particular setup will actually deliver what they are hoping for. It is the kind of early-stage guidance that can save considerable time, money, and disappointment further down the line.

Experience, creativity, dependability

What sets Lightwell apart is the accumulated experience of designing for live broadcast across more than two decades, combining creative rigour and innovation with a track record of delivering reliably and consistently on productions where failure is not an option. The technology changes. Those qualities don't.
